Meet Our Director Jennifer Potts!
Hello! I am Jen Potts, writer and director of The Extraordinary World of Cecily Blinkstop. I was born in 1970 in a little town in Western Maryland called Hagerstown. To date, I have lived in six states in the US and in London, England, and have attended 13 schools. I worked as a theatre director for the first half of my career, directing more than 10 productions before returning to school at age 41 to study film production with kids less than half my age. As a child, I had an imaginary friend named Jeanie-Janie. I also married a boy named John Hill when I was 5 years old—he was 4 (a younger man). I was a strange child who defied anyone who said I couldn’t do something. The first time I rode my bike without training wheels, I crashed into a tree. My sister and I had a Holly Hobby bedroom with a shag rug, I had a banana seat bike, and my favorite Halloween costume was a Daddy’s Rootbeer can, which I later used to house cute puppies that were dumped in our yard. I was the kid who tried to make ice cream out of snow, save the dolphins, organize street carnivals, and create plays with my cousins (I was writer, director, costume designer, makeup artist, set designer). Life was much different for a child in the 70s—it was a life full of freedom and adventure. I still love adventure. I love to travel, eat new foods (love Lebanese food), try new things (like juggling), hang out with my hubby and five kids, and, to this day, when anyone tells me I can’t do something, I just have to do it!
